After 14 weeks of learning Computer in Education, today is the final class of the semester. I seriously gonna miss the moments that I spend here in computer lab 2. For today class, Dr Fariza explained to us our final assignment which is to key in student’s mark using Microsoft Excel and find the mode, mean, median, standard deviation, highest mark, lowest mark and etc. So, first we have to come up with the name of 30 students and give them marks for 10 subjects. This surely a lot of works to be done. After that, Dr Fariza guide us on how to fill in the grades using features in Microsoft Excl so that we don’t have to type manually. Alhamdulillah, after knowing the way, the task become much easier. As for finding the total sum of the mark, the highest and lowest mark per subject, Dr Fariza left it to us to explore by ourself.
After we’re done with Microsoft Excel, the class proceeds with video presentation from each group regarding the topic that they have assigned for ever since the beginning of the sem. Finally, we come to the end of the class. I still can’t believe that the class has finished. Time does flew so fast. Before the class dismiss, Dr Fariza gave us 2 tokens which is pen and notebook which I appreciated so much. Then, we snapped some pictures outside the computer lab to be kept as oe of our precious memories. Thank you, Dr Fariza for all the guidance and knowledge that you have gave to us. In sya ALLAH, till we meet again in future. Amin :-)

Time does flies so fast. It feel like it was yesterday we started our first class in Computer in Education. For this week, we shall proceed with our next assignment which is to make a video regarding our topic. As for my group, we are required to do video on Learning about ICT. Before we proceed with making the video, first we should decide the objectives of the video and come out with the story board. We can save a lot of time and energy with storyboard and make sure that everything runs smoothly. A good storyboard and execution will produce a good video. So, my group members and I discuss and shared our ideas in making the video.
Well, there’s a saying “ Two brains are better than one brain”. We come out with a lot of ideas. The good thing is that both of all of my group members and I are the same coursemate when we were in Diploma previously. During our diploma, we have done a lot of videos for assignments, therefore we use our previous experience and technique then improvise it for this video. After we’re done with the storyboard, we showed it to Dr Fariza to hear her comments on it and improve any parts. Alhamdulillah, Dr Fariza like our storyboard and she even gives her suggestions on how to make it better. Once we have done with the video, we must save it in wmv or mp4 format so that it can be played in various media player. We discussed about multimedia and its element for today’s class. As usual, we were given some time to do the search of our own. Actually, I’m very comfortable with this style of learning which student-centred learning. It gave student space and time to explore things on their own, gain their own understanding which later will be shared with the class and be independent.
Multimedia can be defined as various of media sources. There are 5 elements of multimedia: text, photo, audio, animation and video. We even discussed on some of the format of these elements that we know such as for images, there are several formats available, for example: jpeg, bmp, png and gif. From the discussion and findings, we are required to provide our answer in the e-forum. After we’ve settled with multimedia, then Dr Fariza mentioned about Dropbox and she instructed one volunteer in our class to construct folders for us to put our assignment in it both individual and group assignment. p/s: Dr Fariza did mentioned that something related to multimedia will come out in the exam. So, I should do more reading on this. Thank you, Dr! Dr Fariza entered the class a bit late at 10.13 am due to some urgent matter. Previously, we have learnt about how to write the report generally. Now, Dr Fariza taught more in depth about the methodology and the research objective. Frankly speaking, sometimes I got confused between methodology and findings and tend to mix them both.
So, Dr Fariza explained that methodology should be covering who are the respondent, where does the survey is conducted, why do we choose the respondent, how do we disseminate the survey and explain each section of the survey. Whereas in findings, we will explain in details the result from the questionnaire. Then, we proceed to a briefing for the next assignment using Microsoft Publisher. Dr Fariza instructed us to make our own brochure and the topic would be on our Dream Vacation and places along with the important information. We must includes pictures, interesting cuisine, contact info of the place, interesting spot and activities and why people should go there. The moments this topic come out, there are 3 places that popping out in my mind which are Japan, Kiruna-Sweden and Seoul. These are the places that I would love to travel right now. It has been my long time dream to go and travel all around the world. Luckily, I’ve done Brochure using Microsoft Publisher back in my diploma times. So, I’m quite familiar with the features. Well, I better get going with my brochure while the ideas still lingering in mind. Gotta go now. Have a great day ! :-) Today, I’ve learnt something new that is very crucial and useful especially for writing thesis for final semester in the future . Dr Fariza taught us on how to utilize Microsoft Word and make our job easier. Since we have conducted a mini research, therefore we are required to write a report on the findings that we got from the research.
The report should contained table of content. Previously during my diploma time, I used to type the table of content manually and it is quite hard and inconvenient for me to adjust the space and edit the headings one by one, Thank you to Dr Fariza for teaching me on how to construct the table of contents by using document map/ navigation pane and headings 1,2,3 and 4. Furthermore, Dr Fariza also taught us about page break, header, page number and ways to write report accordingly. Today’s class actually has gave me a lot of useful input that I don’t know. Now, that I know, I won’t hesitate to practice all these skills for my future projects. This week’s class, we will be focusing on our online questionnaires for the mini research. So, Dr Fariza spend few minutes to check each group questionnaire and give comments to improve the questionnaire. For my group’s questionnaire, Alhamdulillah there’s not much problem or amendment that we should do especially for the questions. But, Dr suggested that we should divided the questions according to their section so that the respondent won’t get confused and we can collect and analyze the data systematically.
Other than that, Dr suggested that we should provide a brief explanation for each unfamiliar term that we use in our question to give a better understanding to the respondent thus we can gain their response more precisely. From this process, I able to understand on how to construct questions for the questionnaire in the future and the Do’s and Don’ts. Since Dr Fariza did mentioned that we should disseminate the questionnaire to university students especially for students of Faculty of Education, therefore we decided to provided bilingual question in English and Bahasa so that, other students won’t get confuse with the term used. At the end, we come out with 30 questions and 4 sections of questions which are Section A: Demographic, Section B: experience and preferences on ICT, Section C: opinion on ICT and Section D: The frequency of using ICT application . Once the questionnaire is done, it is ready to be disseminated via social media like Facebook, Wechat and Whatsapp. Once, we got the total response that we want, only then we will proceed with the data analysis. I’ve learnt a lot and now I know how to do questionnaire for online survey using Google Form. As for today’s class, Dr Fariza mentioned that all topics in Computer in Education will be the core content for the examination. So, we should pay more attention on every topics that we’ve learned and revise it from time to time. Then, we move on to today’s topic which is about Computer & Internet Security and Original & Licensed Software. So, we had an interesting discussion in the class like we always had about the topics that we have here. Everyone seems so enthusiastic to share on what they know about.
Then, Dr Fariza proceeded to our next assignment, Assignment 4: Mini research and construct questionnaire. Dr explains to us the compulsory things and sequence that should be included in our Mini research.
The questions in questionnaire should not be less then 20 questions. So, we better get everything done and start moving now! A lot of things to be done. Today class, all of the groups will be presenting their topics to the class. This is my first presentation for the first semester in UKM. Frankly speaking, it has been a while since my last presentation in diploma. So yeah, I feel quite nervous and thrill at the same time. Well, I hope everything will be just fine. There are 5 groups that will be presenting today. My group will be the second presenter which will be presenting on ‘Learning About ICT’ topic. Luckily, this is a group presentation therefore, I should feel okay and less nervous (I hope so)
From their presentation, I can sum up some of the points that I can understand: 1. 21st Century Skills -4C’s: Creativity, Communication, Collaboration and Critical Thinking -How far do we accommodate with the 4C’s in current class environment 2. Learning About ICT-Definition of ICT (general and education) -Input and Output Devices -Advantages and Opportunity for ICT in Education 3. E-Learning vs Mobile Learning -Differences and Similarities between E-Learning vs Mobile Learning -How UKM should implement this system 4. Thinking Skills in ICT-Decision/Analyzing Thinking Skills -Direct our own learning. -Enable students to make hypothesis and experiment more 5. Implications of Web 2.0-The features of web 2.0 -Advantages of Web 2.0. Then, we sum up with short conclusion from Dr Fariza and other groups. I’ve learnt a lot from today lesson. This class started from 3pm and finished at 6.30pm. This is surely the longest duration class we ever had. But it’s okay as long as all groups managed to present today. Life as a student can be very hectic with a lot of assignments both individual and group. Different schedule and planning sometimes could make discussion for group assignment hard to arrange. Thanks to Dr Fariza for today’s lesson, we’ll be learning on how to edit group work via online at the same time without need to worry about overwrite information and we can discuss virtually wherever we are. My group members for his course are Ivy and Shazana. We’ll be cooperating and collaborating together for the whole semesters. Alhamdulillah, everything went great and awesome. For the next assignment, we were given a topic for each group. Our group which is group 2 were assigned with Learning about ICT topic.
Dr Fariza taught us all the features in Google Slides, an application that allow us to edit the slide at the same times without need to worry about overlapping and overwriting content. This really come in handy for me as a student. The features in Google Slides aren’t much different like what we have in Microsoft Powerpoint, Alhamdulillah. I can understand on how to us it no time. Since this application can only be edited online, so we don’t have to worry about viruses, computer problem or losing data as the files will be keep in cloud storage which is safer and accessible wherever we are with internet connection. Other than Google Slides, Google also provides other online editable applications which are Google Docs, Google Spreadsheet and Google Form. Therefore, my group decided to find the information regarding the topic that was assigned to us and divided the task and topic accordingly. Later, we discussed on our content and presentation. I’m looking forward to apply what I’ve learnt in today lesson for my upcoming group assignment. It is true that nowadays with technology, everything comes in handy. Today, we started our class with new topic which I find quite interesting as it is new to me. We’ll be discussing on Computer as Tutor, Tutee and Tools. Previously, I only see computer as the tools/ mean to get my job done instead of Tutor and Tutee. But, it turns out that computer roles can be divided into 3 categories as mentioned earlier. Before I go deeper into the computer’s different roles, I’ve decided to understand the general definition of each term first. Generally, Tutor can be defined as the one who guide or instruct, Tutee as the one who learn or being guide by the tutor while tools can be defined as the means whereby act/s is accomplished.
Like usual, Dr Fariza gave us some time for us to google about it online and come out with our understanding and shared it with the class. I found a lot of interesting articles and chart that were designed to explain each roles. A topic about this was created in e-Forum at GE1155ukm.weebly.com, therefore we have to share our understanding on the concept on the e-Forum. It is interesting to read different point of view from all first year students of Faculty of Education including students from Special Education and Sports and Recreation. Basically, this is my brief understanding on Computer as Tutor, Tutee and Tools that I’ve posted in e-FORUM. “Basically from my understanding, Powerpoint is one of the most convenient tool for slide presentation and Overhead projector. Powerpoint helps teachers and students to create and customize the teaching materials virtually as it is very easy to create, handle, navigate and present as it does not require complicated setup. Other than that, Powerpoint can also acts as a Tutor by presenting simulation on lesson such as for Science subject via related graphics, audio, movie and texts in the slide to enhance students' understanding. On the other hand, without we realize, we actually used computer as tutee in the process of creating slideshow using Powerpoint as we give command to the software to come out with the task and arrangement we intended to do.” From today’s lesson, I’m no longer see computer only as a tools, but also as a Tutor and Tutee. It was a great lesson for today with new terms, knowledge and different point of view to be shared. |
